I was introduced to the wonderful world of painting by my grandfather, a muralist in central Mexico. I was perhaps 10 years old the first time I saw my grandfather paint. I was mesmerized by his ability. He was painting, from memory, our favorite Disney characters for my brothers and I as gifts for us. As I was watching him, I thought to myself, "I want to do that, I think I CAN do that!" That was the beginning of my passion for drawing and painting.
As a high school graduate I heeded the advice of the adults in my life and majored in graphic design instead of the fine arts. I attended the California College of Arts in the San Francisco Bay Area and worked in the Graphic Design field for almost 30 years. I finally could no longer ignore my desire to return to my first love, painting. I'm thrilled to be back to what I truly love!
Since returning to painting, one of the most rewarding experiences has been teaching workshops. While I've taught at some well known art centers in California, my favorite teaching experience has been for the Arts in Corrections program. I've taught oil painting and drawing classes in this program and it's been incredibly rewarding to work with some of the most talented and eager students I've ever had the pleasure of working with.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
I'm inspired by the beauty of light, color, form and shadow. It's endlessly fascinating to me and I don't have to go very far to find it, it's all around us!
I work primarily in oils and pastels and I also enjoy working in charcoal and graphite. I prefer to work from life, setting up my subject in my studio.
My work has been featured in the 4th Annual Central California Art Showcase, The Pastel Society of the West Coast Annual Juried Show and in various gallery group shows.
